Empowering Education for Better Futures
Financial literacy plays a crucial role in empowering older adults to make informed decisions about their financial well-being. It provides them with the knowledge and skills to navigate complex financial landscapes confidently. By understanding concepts such as budgeting, investments, and retirement planning, older adults can take control of their financial futures.
Having a solid foundation in financial literacy enables older adults to confidently advocate for their own financial needs.
Secure Futures (SF) is an empowering and free financial literacy workshop series designed exclusively for older adults in Bergen County as a complement to our one-on-one Senior Checks money management program. What makes this program so important?
According to research from organizations including the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS), many older adults face increasing financial vulnerability as they age. While women are disproportionately affected by poverty in later life, older men can also experience significant financial challenges due to retirement, health issues, job loss, caregiving responsibilities, divorce, or the loss of a spouse.

Financial insecurity among older adults is often shaped by a lifetime of factors, including uneven access to financial education, differences in earnings, caregiving interruptions, rising healthcare costs, and the challenge of making savings last through longer life expectancies.

Major life transitions—such as retirement, widowhood, divorce, or becoming a caregiver—can create new financial pressures and require skills that many people were never taught.

That’s where Secure Futures comes in.

Our program is designed to help older adults in Bergen County build confidence, gain practical financial knowledge, access trusted resources, and make informed decisions about their future. Whether you’re planning ahead, navigating a major life change, or simply looking for guidance, Secure Futures is here to help you move forward with greater security and peace of mind.
