Making Teaneck as great a place to grow old as it is
to grow up
.

In 2016, The Bright Side Family launched Age-Friendly Teaneck, a local community project to make the Township more livable for people of all ages, while also increasing awareness of the needs of the rapidly growing older population.

This initiative is generously funded in part by the Henry and Marilyn

Taub Foundation.

What is an age-friendly community?

Age-friendly communities strive to serve the needs and value the contributions of all citizens, both young and old. To achieve that ideal, a community needs to be safe, secure, and free of physical and social barriers, with policies that promote:

  • Affordable Housing

  • Reliable Transportation

  • Walkable Streets

  • Supportive business climate

  • Good Health

  • Opportunities to be engaged

Age-Friendly Teaneck is a member of the Age-Friendly North Jersey Alliance

Program Priorities.

For many older residents in Teaneck, the pandemic has increased the challenges they face to affordably and comfortably age in this community. We are working with partner organizations in the region – and with Teaneck’s government, civic and faith leaders – to find ways to overcome the housing, transportation, and social support barriers that can make a community less livable for people of all ages. We also are seeking to develop new outreach and community education programs, building on our mission of ensuring older residents are equipped with the knowledge and resources they need to age in independence, safety, and dignity.

Resource Guide.

We have a comprehensive resource guide for local services that cater to the needs of older adults in Teaneck, NJ.

Health Fairs.

Civic Engagement.

Invested in civic engagement & local legacy through the foundation of the Teaneck Historical Society.
