Partnerships are the lifeblood of age-friendly work, and this past spring our Age-Friendly Teaneck team cemented some old collaborations and fostered some new ones while playing a central role in co-hosting the Township’s first-ever “Super Senior Prom.”

Age-Friendly Teaneck Coordinator Janice Dorman, along with Director of Senior Programs EJ Vizzi, were part of the planning committee for the May 14th event held at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe, an event that was more than a year in the making.

“The Super Senior Prom was a fantastic way to bring people together for fun, connection, and celebration during Older Americans Month, all while emphasizing the importance of community and active aging,” said Dorman, who also serves as a member of the Teaneck Senior Citizens Advisory Board.

Multiple prom planning meetings were held throughout the past year, coordinated and led by Township staff.

"I’m so proud of what we were able to create for our Teaneck community with the first Super Senior Prom,” said Zohna Jones, director of the Teaneck Senior Center, which is part of the Teaneck Recreation Department. “What began as a simple idea became a beautiful celebration filled with joy, elegance, and meaningful connection for our seniors.”

“It was a pleasure to partner with The Bright Side Family and Age-Friendly Teaneck to bring this vision to life,” Jones said. “I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make the event such a success— co-chair, Roosevelt Sills, Assistant Director of the Teaneck Senior Center, Ashley Mutschler, and of course Janice Dorman and EJ Vizzi. A special thank you to Township Manager Jaclyn Hashmat, Superintendent of Recreation Sean Powers, and Assistant Superintendent Denis Nelson, and the Teaneck Senior Center Staff for all their support in helping to make tonight happen.”

“Seeing our seniors dressed up, laughing, dancing, and enjoying each other’s company was a wonderful reminder of what the Super Senior Prom is all about,” Jones added. “The Teaneck seniors bring so much wisdom, energy, and heart to our community every day, and this event was just one small way to celebrate how deeply valued and appreciated they are."

A few weeks before the prom, Age-Friendly Teaneck also partnered with another community organization to make sure older residents would have something festive and stylish to wear.

This new partnership with the Never Alone Again resource center transformed our Age-Friendly Community Room into a boutique of donated semi-formal attire for four hours a day from April 27 to April 30.
