SENIOR
CHECKS
A free money management program for older adults in Bergen County
Empowering financial independence.
Managing finances can become increasingly challenging with age.
Many seniors face financial difficulties due to limited income, rising expenses, and navigating an increasingly digital world, making it hard to keep up with bills, track finances, avoid financial scams, and more.
By providing one-on-one support and access to social welfare services,
Senior Checks empowers older adults to make informed financial decisions
and live with greater peace of mind.
What is Senior Checks?
Senior Checks is a program that aims to empower older adults to remain safe and independent by providing routine financial management assistance. Our program offers a range of services to help with financial tasks, such as assisting with bill payments, budgeting, mail management, check writing, navigating online banking, avoiding financial scams, and more.
How it works.
We pair our program clients with trained and vetted volunteers, who work one-on-one with clients as their Bill Paying Assistants. Our program is also facilitated by licensed social workers, who help connect clients to any relevant social welfare services that can benefit their budgets. We find that many of our Senior Checks clients are not aware of the social services they are eligible for, or may not know that certain services exist at all.
Senior Checks is open to all Bergen County residents who are at least 60 years old and is provided free of charge to clients. We operate in partnership with the Bergen County Division of Senior Services, and our program is the only one in all of Bergen County that offers free, one-on-one, in-person money management services for older adults.
