HELP WITH
YOUR DECISION

Making difficult choices.

If you have recently found yourself in the position of caring for an aging parent, relative, friend, or neighbor, you have embarked upon a journey that is unlike any other. Caring for an aging adult can be challenging, but with the right tools and resources, it can prove to be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.

Life's little challenges can seem a bit easier when there is someone by your side. This is especially true for the older adult, who may experience a range of emotions associated with a lifestyle change. For some individuals, this transition can be particularly difficult.

This reinforces the need for an active support network. We strongly encourage family members and friends to be involved in their loved ones' lives. Ongoing participation through visitations, telephone calls, and written correspondence help them feel more connected and can significantly enhance their quality of life.

Assisted Living & Medicaid.

You may be surprised to hear this, but there is a government subsidy program that may help you pay for assisted living.

The State of New Jersey’s Department of Human Services offers the MLTSS program. This program enables older adults to receive a broad array of supportive and health services by residing in an assisted living facility. These older adults must be at risk of nursing home placement and who meet income and resource requirements.

All eligible New Jersey residents can enroll in MLTSS. Bright Side Manor is one of a very few facilities in northern New Jersey that participates extensively with the MLTSS program. Unlike other facilities, we do not require that residents pay privately before transitioning onto MLTSS. For questions about the MLTSS eligibility, please contact your local County Welfare Agency (Board of Social Services) for your community.

For further information, please visit NJ MLTSS or contact your local area agency on aging at 1-877-222-3737.
